A nomadic Artist, living and creating in a self-converted van, I paint in a jubilant riot of color to harness the splendor of landscapes through which I travel.

Three new paintings inspired by my stay on Whidbey Island, WA.
Today, they`re getting a coat of varnish and wired up so they`ll be ready to hang in their new homes.
Look for them to hit my website shop tomorrow!

Day 1 of painting in a hotel room.
The start of a new painting is the most vulnerable part of the entire process for me. It`s that moment of creation where you aren`t really sure what magic is going to come from your hand/paintbrush/pencil, and that`s both exciting and terrifying.
That`s why I tend to hole up and hide away when I`m beginning a new painting, I have to get it laid out first before I can lay it - aka myself - out for others to witness.
I don`t typically sketch out paintings this thoroughly, but I admit I was a little nervous about it, so I laid out more details than usual. My normal method is to loosely sketch out basic shapes and outlines, then intuitively fill in the rest with paint. But this isn`t a typical situation, and I wanted to get everything worked out before I move to a public setting to start filling it in with color.
To break the anxiety ice, I started working on the sky while still in my room. I`m feeling good about it all and love the larger format, so it`s down to the lobby we go! ๐๐ผ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐จ

I`m excited to share that I have been chosen as the Artist in Residence at the @logecamps Leavenworth, WA location. ๐
I`ll be spending the next three weeks exploring the area and creating lots of art based on the local landscape, which won`t be hard because it`s absolutely gorgeous here. LOGE hotels are all pet-friendly, so Paco is a welcome guest, though he`s still getting used to all the noises that come along with hotel living.
When I saw the call for applications, it was the hotel`s motto that really got my attention: Live Outside - Go Explore. It aligns perfectly with my lifestyle and values, and I`m thrilled to have been selected as one of their Artists for this session.
Being in a hotel also means I have more space to create, so first up is a large 24" x 36" painting! I painted the gesso base layer inside the van, and you can see how tight it would`ve been had I tried to paint that scale in my tiny home. Here, I`m able to spread out and really dive in. ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐จ
Paco and I will be painting in the lobby or courtyard - though temps are dropping, so it might be more inside days while we`re here.
From what I`ve seen during our short time here, Leavenworth is a pretty incredible little town with a multitude of trails and outdoor adventures to choose from - and I aim to do much more exploring while here.
So, for the next few weeks, all my posts and stories will give you a glimpse into what this area offers, as well as watching this new painting unfold.
I can`t wait to see what transpires during our stay here, but I`ve no doubt it`s gonna be great! ๐ฅณ

This painting was inspired by the Washington Pass overlook at the east end of North Cascades National Park in Northern Washington State.
It was pouring rain the entire time we drove through the park and low, heavy clouds obscured everything from mid-treeline and above.
Rain continued to fall as Paco and I walked along the little path at the overlook, but I wasn`t about to drive through without stopping to take in the amazing scenery. I was just grateful the clouds lifted to reveal the full view.

A quiet and colorful morning walk in the rain for your moment of zen. ๐๐๐

The fall colors are on point in this area. ๐
Every trail feels like a magical technicolor corridor.
I`ve taken a bazillion photos, but I`ll just share one for now. ๐๐๐

Our last campsite was just supposed to be a temporary stop, but we ended up spending a week there instead.
We`d been moving through thick, moss-covered forests, which are beautiful, but also damp and dark.
I found myself craving sunlight and headed to higher ground where we found just that.
Each day offered the full arc of both the sun and moon moving overhead. Evenings brought an orchestra of crickets and frogs, daily deer visits, and even a little bear.
It was pure delight, and the bright sunlight was such an inspiration I cranked out FIVE new paintings while there! ๐ฎ
We`ve moved on now and new, exciting adventures await. I can`t wait to share what`s in store for us next - it`s good! ๐ฅณ๐๐ฉ๐ผโ๐จ
