They really have no excuse for missing a head gasket. The van would have been loosing water and running temperatures would have increased significantly on longer journeys.They could have spotted the low water level in the radiator or even bubbles when you revved the van. If they were decent tradesmen they would not have kept charging you for repairs they failed to do. The quotes to install a new or used engine is scandalous. Where is the stricken van now ? It makes me worry that my own 2001 Econoline will start to give bother. The mileage is only about 58,000 so fingers crossed it is correct. I somehow doubt the mileage when I inspect the chassis and suspension.It is certainly showing it’s age underneath.Please let me know your location atm in case I might know some local mechanic who could help or even locate a new conversion van
